Traquair Fair: a fiery feast of entertainment for all the family

Traquair Fair

Traquair Fair, held in the grounds of Scotland's Oldest Inhabited House in the Scottish Borders is one of the longest running Fairs in  Scotland and is fully focused on a family audience.

This year is no exception. The "fire" theme this year means a red hot programme of entertainment for all ages and a strong crafts in action section with glass blowing demonstrations, forging, raku and candlemaking. On the main wine glass lawn there will be some stunning outdoor shows including fire breathing, the Voodoo Unicyling performance group, Turbo Jonez, and the Temple of Boom  and the exciting sounds of the  Explosive Dholi drummers.

In the Old Walled Garden there is always a relaxed atmosphere and music on the Little Stage with some great bands such as the Blazin Fiddles, Rab Noakes & Fraser Spiers, The New Rope String Band, Flame & Fury, Rory Macleod to name but a few. This year there is an additional Up n Coming stage with new local bands being given a chance to perform.

A huge array of Children's entertainers on the main avenue will include The Clydebuilt Puppet Theatre, Mike Hares with Willie the Wicked Woof, the wonderful Mr Boom and a puppet theatre based in an old Gypsy Caravan. There is also a Children's Book Tent with  authors and storytellers and for those wanting to get involved or run around  there will be arts workshops a colour maze and swing boats.

With traditional music and dance in the courtyard and even touring the house included in your ticket travelling to the Fair early is advisable to make the most of your day unless of course, you decide to camp and make it a weekend you and your kids will remember.
