Jerry Brotton

Jerry Brotton is Professor of Renaissance Studies at Queen Mary University of London. He graduated with a BA in English from Sussex University, followed by an MA at Essex University in the Sociology of Literature. After that, he lived in East Berlin before returning to study for a PhD in early modern mapping at Queen Mary. He is a regular broadcaster and critic as well the author of Renaissance Bazaar: From the Silk Road to Michelangelo and the bestselling A History of the World in Twelve Maps, which has been translated into twelve languages. His newest book This Orient Isle: Elizabethan England and the Islamic World shows that England's relations with the Muslim world were far more extensive, and often more amicable, than has been appreciated.
