Salman Ahmed

Salman Ahmed is a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. After studying at the University of Cambridge, and New York University’s Stern School of Business, he worked for the UN for fifteen years. Then, he served as a visiting professor and research scholar at Princeton University. Prior to joining Carnegie, he served as special assistant to President Obama and senior director for strategic planning on the National Security Council staff at the White House. He also directly supported the secretary of state John Kerry’s negotiations with Russia on Syria between 2013 and 2016, and was the co-chair of the International Ceasefire task Force in Geneva. He currently focuses on the future of U.S. national security strategy and its role in promoting national economic interests.
