Nawres Hussein is a human rights activist with nearly twenty years of experience, and has been a trainer in monitoring violations since 2004. She has conducted numerous training sessions on how to monitor human rights violations, and has participated in a wide range of trainings covering monitoring, documentation, advocacy, and the development of her training skills. As a woman working in a male-dominated society, she has worked diligently to establish herself as a trainer, activist, and human rights monitor.
She began her career at the Ministry of Human Rights, where from 2007 she focused on prison monitoring, including the monitoring and documentation of torture. She subsequently joined the High Commission for Human Rights, where from 2015 to the present she has worked across the areas of criminal justice, economic, social, and cultural rights, as well as enforced disappearances and training. Alongside her institutional work, she collaborated with fellow women activists to establish a women-focused non-governmental organisation dedicated to advocacy, with a fully female governing board. The organisation has been operational since 2017.
Nawres has also been actively involved in a broad range of human rights activities, including work connected to UN Security Council Resolution 1325, through which she and her colleagues conduct regular trainings on conflict mediation and serve as women peace mediators within their community.
