Natalia Suarez Viatela is a peacebuilding, security, and conflict transformation professional with more than a decade of experience. Her work has focused on counterterrorism, illicit finance prevention, the reintegration of former combatants, and dialogue between communities and local authorities in conflict-affected regions of Colombia.
Committed to peace education and to preserving the legacy of Colombia’s Truth Commission, she has led initiatives that promote dialogue within civil society on the country’s armed conflict. She has also facilitated the “Women as Peacebuilders Certificate Program” and volunteered with Embrace Dialogue for the past ten years.
She holds a master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Queensland, earned through the Rotary Peace Fellowship. This experience also deepened her knowledge of UNSCR 1325 and the WPS agenda through fieldwork in the Philippines. Natalia currently serves as a senior professional in the Technical Secretariat supporting the Peace Negotiations for Territorial Peacebuilding in Nariño.
